About the event
The Day of Remembrance is an important moment for our community to honor and commemorate the lives of George Hart, John Moss, Samuel Harris, Charles Humphries, and Charles Miller - 5 Black men who were victims of racial terror lynching. We'll also celebrate young leaders from our community who have researched racial justice issues and submitted essays connecting our history with current events and ways to move toward justice in the future. A dramatic performance by the Auburn University Mosaic Theatre Company, a musical performance by local artists, an interactive time of reflection, and an exhibit featuring our soil collection jars will inspire us to continue and expand our work of confronting racial terror. Please join us for this special outdoor gathering near the Lynching in Lee County historical marker at the Lee County Courthouse Square in downtown Opelika (seating provided, backup indoor location for inclement weather TBA).
